Check Federal Immigration Custody

To find someone released from the ICE / U.S. Marshals custody network after a Calloway County connection, first identify which agency last held the person. Immigration detention, federal pretrial detention, and county-jail custody are separate systems. Each has a different record trail. A person who leaves Calloway County custody for a federal detainer has transferred, not necessarily entered the community. ICE’s locator can help with present immigration detention, while a federal court docket and the holding facility explain many Marshals movements. Historical confirmation may require an agency records request.

ICE Custody Release Paths

No official source reviewed for Calloway County identified a standing ICE detention facility in the county. The ICE / U.S. Marshals custody network is therefore a set of possible receiving authorities, not one local jail at a fixed address. A person arrested locally on federal authority may stay briefly in a county or contract bed. A person subject to an immigration detainer may leave the Calloway County Jail when another custodian assumes control.

That handoff ends one booking episode. It does not show community release. The county release sheet may identify ICE, USMS, another jail, or a federal holding site as the destination. The federal court docket may show a detention or release order. ICE records may show later immigration custody. These records describe linked events, but no single entry speaks for every system.

Confirm ICE Custody Status

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System is the public starting point for present ICE detention. It offers two routes. One uses an A-number and country of birth. The other uses biographical details: name, date of birth, and country of birth. Exact data matters. Spelling, name order, and the identifier entered can change the result.

  1. Choose the A-number route when the person’s immigration identifier is known.
  2. Otherwise enter the full biographical details required by the locator.
  3. Compare the returned name and custody information with known case facts.
  4. Contact the listed facility or the relevant ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations office to confirm a current placement.
  5. For a past event, seek the facility record, court file, or an ICE FOIA response.
No-match warning: An ICE locator miss does not prove release; transfer, lag, age limits, or mismatched data may explain it.

The ICE tool is chiefly a present-custody locator. It should not be treated as a complete Calloway County release archive. The county’s own release sheet remains the best source for when local custody ended and which agency took control.

Calloway U.S. Marshals Records

The U.S. Marshals Service manages many people in federal pretrial detention. It also moves prisoners between courts and holding sites. Unlike the Bureau of Prisons, USMS does not offer a general public historical person locator. A failed BOP search is not proof that a federal defendant was released. The person may still be pretrial, in transit, in a contract bed, or outside BOP’s prison-record coverage.

Start with the federal court docket. A detention order, bond order, release order, judgment, or later case entry explains what the judge authorized. Next, ask the physical holding facility what disposition ended its custody. That second record matters because a court order and the actual movement may occur at different points, particularly when another hold must be resolved.

Detainer
A request or legal basis for another authority to take custody when the current custodian is finished.
Remand
A court direction placing a person in custody.
Pretrial detention
Federal custody while a criminal case remains pending.
Transfer
A move between custodians or sites, not a release into the community.

Calloway Federal Custody Handoffs

The Calloway County Jail is the immediate record source when the chain begins with a local booking. Its release record can supply the booking number, release date and time, release type or disposition, authorizing court or agency, and a transfer destination or detainer notation when those fields exist and are public. The official county record should be read before assuming that removal from the jail roster meant release home.

Ask the jail through its official records contact for documents sufficient to show the custody disposition for one named person and booking episode. Include a booking number or date if known. Request the release sheet or jail-management entry and ask for the destination or receiving agency. If the result names ICE or USMS, follow that handoff through the appropriate federal source. If it names another jail, contact that facility instead.

The broader Calloway County released-inmate search explains how jail, court, Kentucky corrections, VINE, and federal records fit together when the last custodian is uncertain.

Historical ICE Release Records

A past immigration-custody event may no longer appear in a locator built for current detention. The relevant ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations office or detention facility may be able to route a status question. For documentary history, ICE provides a Freedom of Information Act process. A narrow request should identify the person as precisely as allowed, give the date range, and name the event sought, such as detention placement, transfer, or release.

Privacy rules can limit access to another person’s records, so the agency may require identity proof or authorization. The request should not demand records controlled by the county jail, USMS, BOP, or a court. Send each part to the body that created it. ICE FOIA addresses ICE documents. A Calloway jail release sheet stays with the jail, and a judicial order stays with the court.

Read Federal Release Records

“Released,” “not found,” and “transferred” are not interchangeable. A confirmed ICE release means ICE ended its custody, but the person could still face another active hold. A county release entry that names a federal receiving agency records a transfer. A federal court release order states the judge’s action, yet it may not capture the exact moment the holding site completed processing.

Build the event in sequence. Confirm the identity first. Record the agency, date, status label, and facility. Then compare the prior custodian’s disposition with the receiving authority’s record. If the records conflict, ask each source about its own part rather than forcing one system’s label onto another.

Note: A locator result is a lead; the controlling facility record and court order provide the stronger account of a disputed release.

Calloway Custody System Boundaries

BOP, ICE, and USMS perform different roles. BOP’s locator generally covers federal prison custody from 1982 forward and can show a release date. ICE’s locator focuses on present immigration detention. USMS often controls federal pretrial detention and transport but lacks a comparable public historical locator. None replaces Calloway County Jail records for the local booking event.

Kentucky’s KOOL search applies to state corrections, not federal or immigration custody. The official Calloway JailTracker applies only to the local jail event. VINE can help with participating local jail and adult correctional custody, but the research does not establish it as an ICE or USMS archive. Choosing the source by custodian prevents a common error: treating absence from one roster as proof that the person is no longer detained anywhere.
